Today's Happiness Experiment entry
Walking round in a T-shirt at this time of the year - today's T: my Gil Scott-Heron one from that great Jazz Caff gig (Gil, hope you're peaceful wherever the fuck they've put you)
Watching the Big 4 start to come together under an autumn sun
I don't think he is. HIV positive, a crack addict and incarcerated. Can't be much fun. I am sorry to say that I am almost waiting for the day when I see an obit in the Guardian.
His body of work - Pieces of a Man, Free Will, the revolution stuff - is still remarkably influential. I hear GSH everywhere.
And when I did my Desert Island Discs earlier this year I really should have included his track 'Beginnings'.
After I wrote that last comment I did a quick Gil search and I see he is out on parole and played a gig in NYC a couple of weeks ago. He is recording a new album and is completing a book on the attempt to get Martin Luther King day recognised in the US.
So good news. Next time he is in blighty (and he is much bigger in the UK than the US) we must go. Deal?
He seems to be out again - written a book about 1980, just started touring again and laying down an LP even as I write (there was an item about him and the US elections on Today on Radio 4 this morning around 7.45)

Double done deal
Gil update. Re-arrested.
What a tragedy - the man needs a break from The Man
Neatly put.
