Can I add my usual touch of cynicism to your blog? I have always thought it true that her voice was 'processed' in the studio so that she sung in tune. The two times I have seen her perform live (on telly admittedly) seemed to confirm to me that she cannot sing a note. I know you have seen her live so I guess you may want to refute that!
I see her as a charisma performer relying on force of personality to get her through and the liking of her depends on whether you connect with the image created or not. I must confess that I just do not understand what she has at all. I feel the same about Patti Smith as you know. I guess you may disagree with that too!
All that really matters is that her singing gets you in the cajhones (a technical term I learnt from Carlos Santana) - and it pumps mine. In fact, she's not the most charismatic of performers. Patti Smith, by contrast, is mighty live - up in the top 3 of the living variety. Her Roundhouse gig earlier this year I'm still coming down from...
