Notes on Joy Division
Martin Hannett was as much the 5th Joy Divisioner as George Martin was the 5th Beatle - their music became the input for a 2nd creative process
Joy Division (Ian Curtis in particular) was picking up on the Bowie slipstream - Kraftwerk, Iggy, Velvets, etc.
Kraftwerk were an immensely important hub band - from Joy Division to Afrika Bambaataa (I saw both JD and AB)
Ian sang with a grown-up's voice
Ian had a certain detachedness, isolated from the others

Quote: Creativity
I define creativity as the process of having original ideas that have value.— Ken Robinson
Creative work in any field often passes through typical phases. Sometimes what you end up with is not what you had in mind when you started. It's a dynamic process that often involves making new connections, crossing disciplines and using metaphors and analogies.

Creativity quote
Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things.Steve Jobs
